Meningococcal Vaccine
19th January 2009 by Babies No CommentsMeningococcal disease is a disease that is caused by bacteria. Generally we have fluid that surrounds the spinal cord and the brain in the body. Meningococcal disease is caused due to the infection of the above mentioned fluid in our body. This disease also mainly targets children who are less than one year of age. In extreme cases this disease may also lead to death. Thus study about baby vaccines implies that early vaccination is necessary in order to prevent the attack of the bacterium. In MCV 4 ‘C’ stands for conjugate which means to reproduce. The number of doses of the vaccine to be administered depends on the severity of the disease. For small children only a single dosage is recommended. More than one dose can be given if the person is at high risk.
The sad thing about this disease is that this virus sometimes affects the micro biologists who are working on bacteria. Other than MCV 4 another vaccine for this disease is available and is administered for adults only. This disease like normal bacterial disease causes body pain and in strange cases causes a change in the person’s behavior. If the level of infection is high the patient may turn pale. In some cases the heart beats at a higher rate. Sometimes this MCV 4 may also affect the functioning of the nervous system. Studies about baby vaccines inform us that unlike other vaccines these vaccines, when they are administered, care must be taken. Otherwise it may result in severe pain in the area of the skin where the vaccine is administered.
