How To Keep Your Baby Safe While They Are Learning How To Walk

1st February 2012 by Babies No Comments

As your baby grows up, she will be more physically active. She is prone to pick things up and put them in her mouth. She will become more responsive when somebody talks to her and smile at people whenever she feels that they are playing with her.

She will cry and get away whenever you brush her teeth or change her diaper.   At 8 months old, babies will be moving about the bed. It is during this age that she will start standing up. Although she will be falling down most of the time.  Whenever she will fall, she would most likely hurt herself. But because babies are usually persistent, they would try again and again until she learns how to do it normally. Yes, she will fall, but she will not stop trying.

As a parent, you will of course be prompted to do something to keep her from hurting herself in the process of learning how to stand and eventually walk. This is why they buy their babies baby walkers. Baby walkers can keep her legs steady and this will keep her from falling down.  In time, she will learn how to take steps with her legs.

She will do this until she can walk like a normal child. However, you go back to square one once you take her out of her walker. Again, her legs would be wobbly causing her to fall down again. The walker does not actually teach her the rudiments of walking but only supports her so she would not fall down in her attempts to walk. Until she learns how to support herself with her legs, her baby walker will back her up.

According to studies, babies who do not use walkers walk faster by two months than babies who use walkers. This is because when babies are placed in walkers and allowed to walk, their gait are usually wrong. If they are taken out of the walker and allowed to take her attempts naturally, it is only then that she will learn how to really walk. You can do this whenever you are around and can watch over the baby as he tries to walk. However, if you are busy with chores and could not watch over your baby, the safest places for her to be is inside her walker.
