Nursery Bedding Designs And Baby Development

13th April 2011 by Babies No Comments

Most parents will pay particular attention to the comfort and safety side of things when choosing their baby’s bedding.  Whilst we applaud this kind of approach, there is also a third area to take into consideration.  Here we look at how making the right choices in your baby’s bed linen can help assist in their development.

Visual stimulation

Research has demonstrated that babies’ visual development can be helped greatly through the correct kind of stimulation.  This stimulation can be provided in the form of stirring designs and patterns.  The advanced eyes of an adult can make out millions shades of colour and light.  Yet when we are still babies we can only differentiate between stark contrasts in colour between light or dark, or black and white.  Therefore designs like a chequered grid or swirly lines offer babies great stimulation.

How the theory can work in the nursery

Choosing bedding for the nursery with patterns on it means that your baby will be visually stimulated for the long periods that they spend in their cot.  If you don’t want to use the obvious black and white option then go for colours that offer a genuine contrast to one another.

Making changes

Buying a few different bedding sets with varying designs that you can change frequently is a good idea.  Rotation means that you child will not become bored with the same old pattern and will continue to enjoy looking at the bedding and thus develop further.

Patterns patterns everywhere

As well as adding patterns to your baby’s bedding you can also consider putting them in other areas where they spend time.  Good examples of such places are on the bottom of their mobile, in the bathroom or in front of their car seat.
