Hepatitis B is a DNA virus that infects the liver and causes inflammation. This inflammation is referred to as hepatitis. The infection caused by this virus can either be long-standing (chronic) or self-limiting (acute). Mostly older children or adults affected with this infection will acquire a total recovery by developing a defensive immunity against the infecting virus. But the rate at which the newborns and the children within the age of one to six clear this infection is very less. If the mother is infected with hepatitis B then the chances for the newborn to carry this infection is very high. Hence to prevent this infection the baby vaccine Hepatitis B was developed.

Initially this Hepatitis B vaccine was developed from the plasma incurred from the person who suffered from chronic infection of hepatitis B virus. Presently this vaccine is made by the insertion or combination of DNA strands. Both the plasma derived vaccine and the DNA combination vaccine are evenly safe and effective. Newborns from hepatitis B infected mother are suggested to incur this baby vaccine so as to reduce the risk of transmission of this virus from the mother. This permits the mother to safely lactate her child. This vaccine should be given on three courses. The second dose should be injected after one month of the first dose injection, whereas the third dose should be given after six months of the first dose. This establishes antibody in the bloodstream. Nowadays many countries are routinely vaccinating the infants against this hepatitis B virus infection. The injection of this vaccination in newborns has not just cut down the risk of this infection but also reduced the rate of liver cancer disease.
