Vaccine for Influenza

19th January 2009 by Babies No Comments

Influenza is nothing but common cold. Influenza can spread very quickly than any other disease because the virus that causes influenza is capable of spreading rapidly. This virus affects people who are less immune. The study about baby vaccines reveals that the vaccine for influenza which is nothing but common cold was developed and used since 1940. One of the simple methods to make a vaccine for influenza is to grow vast number of selected strains of viruses (generally two strains of type A and one strain of type B).But the major disadvantage with this technique is that the strains take a long time to grow and hence prevents the researchers from mass production. Hence the researchers try to inject some proteins that give immunity in some strains.

Another study about baby vaccines reveals that the researchers usually use viruses to develop vaccine for viral diseases like influenza. The viruses are harmful only when they are strong. Hence what researchers do is that they weaken the viruses. The viruses, once weakened are no more dangerous and the also help in killing harmful viruses by producing anti-bodies. Besides antibodies, they also produce white blood corpuscles which are the major cells that provide immunity to the body. Another vaccine for influenza has been developed that has been proved to be effective for animals. But it has not been tested on human beings. Some vaccines like vaccine of the type recombinant can widely be distributed in a short period but its effectiveness is still under question.
