Fairy Costume Ideas
31st May 2010 by Babies No CommentsLittle girls often prefer a fairy costume because these mythical creatures are beautiful, supernatural and colorful. In addition, the appearance of fairies is very close to that of humans, except for the fact that they may be much smaller in size and they have wings and supernatural powers. Fairy costumes are probably one of the most popular Halloween outfits, although they typically get worn year-round. Although folklore has it that some fairies can do mischief against humans, fairies are generally considered to be benevolent creatures because such is their role in the fairy tales that children get to read in books and watch in movies and television. It is therefore understood that fairy outfits are commonly sought after by children.
With the popularity of Peter Pan boosted further by Hollywood, the Tinker Bell fairy costume is very much in demand. The mythical character of Tinker Bell was created in 1904 by J. M. Barrie and she can be found in several books and movies. Of course, the image of this fairy that was perpetrated by Walt Disney is the most well-known representation where she is in a green dress with a jagged hem. Girls can imagine themselves helping the lost boys in Neverland and giving humans the ability to fly by sprinkling them with pixie dust.
Another popular fairy costume is that of the garden fairies with the flower fairy being the favorite because of the illustrations created by Cicely Mary Barker. According to folklore, each garden fairy has a flower to monitor and care for so that its different characteristics, such as scent and color, can be maintained. There are various kinds of flower fairies and these are the fairies of healing, joy, love and beauty, purity and hope, and energy. There certain flowers that are preferred by fairies and these include violets, hollyhocks, scented roses, poppies, lavender, foxgloves, bluebells, narcissus, lilies, jasmine, thyme, rosemary, and snapdragons.
Another great Canadian fairy outfit for girls is that of the woodland fairy who resides in forests and is supposed to be in charge of the care of the trees and other components of woodlands. These are not ordinary forests because they contain a lot of mystery and excitement for the vivid imagination of young children. Fairy costumes can offer much assistance in the development of children because when they play imaginary characters it is not just about having fun. It is common for children to play make-believe games and these costumes can go a long way in helping them broaden their imagination. Because children’s stories often associate fairies to things that are good, imagining themselves as fairies is a popular interest of young girls. The whimsical and airy characteristics of fairies are also very attractive to children many some grown-ups.
